Ectomycorrhizal Mushrooms from Old-Growth Forests in the CWH Zone

Non-Timber Forest Products: Mushrooms

test Old-growth forests in the very wet maritime subzone in the Coastal Western Hemlock zone were sampled for 4 years for aboveground ectomycorrhizal mushrooms. Sites were dominated by western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) and silver fir (Abies amabilis) forests. Around 200 different species were collected and described. This site includes species that were collected for each of the 4 years and previously reported from the province.   We identified many Non-Timber Forest Product (NTFP) mushrooms that are or potentially of economic importance to the province. This site describes in detail their morphology, synonyms, common names, ecology and habitats and look-alikes. We also provide distribution maps and interesting facts about each mushroom.
