Polyozellus multiplex Look-alikes
Gomphus clavatus the edible pig’s ear gomphus (above), also has lavender tones but is paler with pale brown to yellowish buff colours, smooth, ellipsoidal spores, and tissues do note turn green in KOH. Gomphus kauffmanii (above) and an aging Gomphus floccosus may be confused with this species, but they are pale brown to tan or vivid orange respectively with soft felty scales that fall into their cavities. These mushrooms have ellipsoid and spiny (not tuberculate) spores.
